Heightening Expectation of the Law for Promotion of Utilization of Lumber

On May 13, “A bill concerning the promotion of utilization of lumber in public buildings” was unanimously approved in both Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in the Lower House and the plenary session. Approved in the Upper House on 19, the bill was enacted. The lumber industry’s expectation on this law is heightening, because it will promote the use of lumber widely not limiting it in public buildings only, thanks to the amendments the opposition parties proposed.

• “Trends in Forests and Forestry in Fiscal 2009 and Policies for Forests and Forestry in Fiscal 2010 (A Forestry White Paper)” was approved
• The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations reported a decreasing trend in the past ten years in the loss of the world's forests due to the conversion of tropical forests into agricultural land
• Rus Intera, a sales subsidiary of JK Holdings Co., Ltd., completed its company registration on January 29 and recently began business operations
